Joe, the photo is wonderful and striking...even more so when you read the poem, which is absolutely beautiful. Shadows do fade, but with this shot, yours and Norma's will never do so. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Joe Schofield replied:

So very sweet and kind to post this comment, Victoria...greatly appreciated.

The Devil Calls The Dance

(a poem by Brad Anderson)

Too many dance this devil
Too many know the steps
Too many loved ones suffer
While the Devil calls the dance

My love is spared the knowledge
Of her dances final steps
I must suffer the knowing
And the Devil calls the dance

Wandering, confused, lost,
Her world suddenly unknown
I reach out and take her hand
And the Devil calls the dance

Day is night, night is day
Her mind, can never rest
I move to match her cadence
And the Devil calls the dance

Following where she leads
To a world I cannot know
Hand in hand, I go with her
And the Devil calls the dance

Her eyes see without knowing
What once she knew is lost
Lovers, now are strangers
And the Devil calls the dance

Her hand, in my hand
My arm around her waist

About Joe Schofield

Joe Schofield

As a kid I was fascinated with photographs. Look, Life magazine. National Geographic. That well-captured interplay of light and shadow...the notion of people, places and moments - all suspended in time. My first "real" camera was a Minolta Srt101. I was seduced. As a teenager, I learned how to develop film while working at Wyle Laboratories in El Segundo, and I still recall the smell of the developer...my eyes adjusting to the red filter light...and the sheer magic and delight of watching images begin to emerge. Life, family and a career as a teacher and psychologist intervened, not to mention a few more film cameras. Eventually, there was digital. Hah! Liberation! Photography is the creative medium that allows me to share...
