Mount Whitney (very center) observed from Tuttle Creek Road. The usual drive up to Mt. Whitney portal was temporarily closed (09/23) due to excessive rains relative to tropical storm Hilary. Tuttle Creek Rd. winds through the Alabama Hills.
The Alabama Hills are a formation of stunning rounded rocks and eroded hills set at the base of the jagged peaks of the Sierra Nevada. Both geologic features were shaped by the same uplifting occurring 100 million years ago.
