Description
The Desert Mallow ... or Sphaeralcea Ambigua, if you want to get your Latin on. I first encountered this vivid plant while driving through Death Valley several years ago. I stopped to photograph the plant because it was vibrant, and unlike much of the hardscrabble flora of the desert. This image is from one of three specimens in my yard, grown from seed harvested in the desert.
