Description
Descending north pass into Saline Valley. Death Valley CA. A favorite of mine.
Saline Valley is a large, deep, and arid valley in the northern Mojave Desert of California. Most of it became a part of Death Valley National Park when the park expanded in 1994. This area had previously been administered by the BLM. It is located northwest of Death Valley proper, south of Eureka Valley, and east of the Owens Valley. The valley's lowest elevations are about 1,000 feet (300 m) and it lies in the rain shadow of the 14,000-foot (4,300 m) Sierra Nevada Range, plus the 11,000-foot (3,400 m) Inyo Mountains bordering the valley on the west.
It seems reasonable to me that everyone should have a: “special place“ where they can go whether it’s physically or in their mind, a special place were you can unfold, and be you. For years now, this is my spot. Saline Valley, and the washboard road to it, 50 miles of 10-20 mph rough travel. Remote. Desolate. You don’t have to be John Muir, but being mindful of needs planning and accounting for the occasional “what-ifs” lends a sense of calm and assurance out there.
The antithesis of tall trees and rivers running through it, the high desert has a beauty that reveals itself with patience, and light.

Been there. Had a sidewinder that fell in love with my husband at the old mine site. Great picture.
Joe Schofield replied:
Thank you, Marilyn! So strange, I guess...I have been out there more than a dozen times -- never seen a snake.

Fabulous composition, Joe. The leading lines in the road and sky make for a very dynamic image.
