Description
Highclere Castle (perhaps more famously referred to nowadays as "Downton Abbey") is a country house in the Jacobethan style by the architect Charles Barry, with a park designed by Capability Brown. The 5,000-acre estate is in Hampshire, England, about 5 miles south of Newbury, Berkshire. It is the country seat of the Earl of Carnarvon, a branch of the Anglo-Welsh Herbert family.
Highclere Castle, the Victorian-era English manor where the PBS series Downton Abbey is shot, is an actual working estate in the Hampshire countryside.
As fate would have it, Rosemary and I had the pleasure of a brief conversation with a very friendly Lady Carnarvon who told us of an amusing "disaster" filming an episode wherein the dogs of the house got loose and proceeded to consume the well-prepared set in the dining room.
"Carson" was nowhere to be found. 🙂

How lucky you were to get it without swarms of people! This is the epic view.
Joe Schofield replied:
:) ! I know what you mean, Kathy. I took the liberty to eliminate several folks that detracted from the view. I don’t think they’ ll mind.
